General Dentistry Sydney CBD

At Macquarie Street Centre, we have solutions for all your general dental needs. With a focus on preventive care, we aim to provide you with the tools to ensure your long-term dental health and minimal ongoing dental needs.

Family Dental Care

When you’ve finally found a great dentist and practice, it’s important to make sure your whole family has regular, convenient examinations. We welcome families to our practice and can support all your family dental needs - including coordination with our specialist Orthodontist if required.

Digital Imaging

To get a thorough understanding of your teeth and gums, we may take a full mouth radiograph (OPG) using the latest in Cone Beam CT Scan technology at your first appointment, as well as smaller digital radiographs as needed. Our modern digital x-ray systems are proven to reduce exposure to radiation by over 90%. It’s a safer and more thorough way to detect conditions such as tooth decay, periodontal disease, or abscessed teeth.

Preventative Dental Care

If you want to look and feel great, and always be able to eat and speak with ease and comfort, the first place to start is with professional and regular dental care.

At Macquarie Street Centre, we identify problems early on and prevent them from becoming chronic or long-standing issues that may progress to bigger problems. A thorough examination, including your gums, jaw joints, tooth charting and full radiographs, is the first step.

Regular professional hygiene is vital to prevent the risk of gum disease. and periodontal disease. Combined with effective at home care it is the most important thing you can do for your teeth and gums. Daily brushing and flossing and regular examinations can make a long-term difference to not only your smile but also your overall health.

Oral Hygiene

Don’t you just love that ‘clean’ feeling when you run your tongue around your mouth after a trip to the dental hygienist?

We’ll make sure you’re comfortable while our dental hygienist completes your dental hygiene examination, monitoring the health of your gums, tongue and cheeks. Most importantly, we will help you understand exactly what you need to do every day at home to maintain a healthy mouth!

Gum Disease

Gum Disease Prevention

Did you know that almost half of all adults in Australia have some form of gum (periodontal) disease? Gum inflammation (Gingivitis) is common and doesn’t cause pain, which means you may not even be aware you’re suffering from it. You might notice red swollen gums that bleed easily when brushed. Bad breath is another unpleasant side effect.

However, if untreated, gum infections can cause serious health problems, including tooth loss and even cardiovascular complications.

As periodontal disease spreads, the gums become infected and pull away from the teeth causing deep pockets. This stage of gum disease is called periodontitis. The bones that support the teeth become damaged and in the long-term teeth may loosen and fall out, or need to be removed.

Treating Gum Disease

To prevent periodontal disease and tooth loss, we’ll clean the root surfaces thoroughly at the earliest stages, removing bacterial toxins, plaque and calculus. We will also educate you on the strategies to minimize and eliminate the disease process. Simple and cost-effective, regular hygiene could make all the difference to your oral health in the future.

Restorative Dental Treatments

Restorations have come a long way since the amalgam, silver or gold materials of the past. At Macquarie Street Centre we offer our patients long-lasting tooth-coloured solutions to treat decay, protect heavily worn teeth or replace defective restorations. Our clinicians use their thorough knowledge of material science and clinical outcome data to choose the right material for the right situation.

Removing Old Fillings

If you have fillings dating back to childhood, chances are they are amalgam, silver or gold. While these restorations have historically provided patients with good longevity, they are unsightly and may affect your presentation, ability to socially interact, smile and laugh. They do not bond to tooth structure so are prone to staining, leakage and can weaken the tooth.

It’s relatively simple to replace these old fillings using a resin tooth-coloured restoration. For larger restorations, we recommend using an inlay or onlay, made of porcelain and customised to the shape of your tooth and harmonised with your bite relationship.

Tooth-Coloured Fillings

Tooth coloured restorations or “composite resin” is a plastic material that sets hard on activation with a special light. Composite resin is appropriate for small to medium size restorations. They can last up to several years and can be reasonably aesthetic at a low cost.

Inlays or Onlays

If a moderate to large amount of tooth structure needs to be replaced, we bond stronger, dental ceramics. We prepare the cavity form and take an impression, which is sent to our ceramist along with a detailed prescription of tooth shade and a copy of your bite. Our ceramist then constructs a custom-made ceramic restoration, which is then adhesively bonded to your tooth at a second appointment.

Specialised Care

A complete approach to dental treatment...

Our comprehensive approach to your care goes beyond the dental treatment we offer at our practice. We’ll also coordinate any specialist care you need, and make sure you are looked after every step of the way. This includes:

Periodontist: Our dental team can take care of any issues relating to the structure of your teeth and gums, and help you prevent gum disease (or periodontitis) with regular oral hygiene.

Endodontics: We can also help you if your teeth require root canal therapy.

Orthodontics: If you need corrective orthodontic appliances due to crowded, misaligned teeth, or bite issues we’ll coordinate your treatment with our specialist orthodontist. Orthodontics has developed today to include options above and beyond the conventional metal brackets, progressing to clear, virtually undetectable aligners for suitable patients. We also combine orthodontics with respected oral-maxillofacial surgeons should more comprehensive treatment be required.

The Macquarie Street Centre has also invested in the latest dental technology and equipment, including a state-of-the-art in-house laboratory service. Your comfort and treatment is our first priority, so let us take care of it all for you.

Sedation Dentistry

If you’ve been putting off your dental treatment because you’re feeling anxious… relax. Sedation is available for all types of treatment, including oral sedation, and IV ‘twilight’ sedation. When you make your first appointment, please discuss any concerns, fears or even phobias with our Practice Manager and we’ll make sure you feel comfortable throughout your visit.

Education on dental procedures can often turn many anxious patients into relaxed patients very quickly. Macquarie Street Centre understands the sedation techniques as well as compassionate and quality dental treatment. Contact our professional team on (02) 9247 1394 to arrange your appointment.
