Karla
Karla

Karla

Unfortunately, a failed orthodontic treatment affected the roots of Karla’s teeth. So much so that many of her natural teeth had to be restored.

Dr Dunn’s Smile Test Drive prompted a treatment plan consisting of dental implants, a dental bridge for Karla’s front teeth, and porcelain veneers on adjacent teeth — for a beautifully balanced smile.

A previously failed endodontic treatment changed the appearance of Stephanie’s front tooth — and not in a way she liked.

Dr Dunn’s Smile Test Drive directed a treatment plan that included a dental implant to replace the damaged front tooth, and eight porcelain veneers to create a stunning new smile.

Matthew

Matthew

Matthew was born with hypodontia, which left him with missing teeth and no confidence in his smile.

Following some orthodontic care, Dr Dunn’s Smile Test Drive determined a final treatment of dental implants, dental crowns and dental bridges.

Sonya

An old dental bridge on some root-treated teeth had left Sonya feeling unhappy; the results didn’t suit her face or match the rest of her smile.

Following Dr Dunn’s Smile Test Drive, Sonya received a replacement implant bridge, some crown lengthening, and new porcelain veneers.

Frequently asked questions

What is a dental implant?

Dental implants are a wonderful, long-lasting solution for replacing missing teeth. Made from strong titanium, dental implants mimic natural teeth and tooth roots. This makes them the closest alternative to natural teeth.

There are three parts to a dental implant: the crown (acts as the tooth), the abutment (connector), and the implant itself. Dental implants can be used to replace a single missing tooth, several teeth or an entire dental arch. However, the best part of dental implants is that they look, feel and function like real teeth. They can restore your true smile and your ability to eat and speak naturally.

How much does a tooth implant cost in Sydney?

The cost for a dental implant to replace a single missing tooth can range from about $4,000 upwards. The price can vary depending on multiple factors including:

  • the experience of the dentist
  • type of implant and crowns used
  • additional procedures (such as the need for bone grafting)

During your consultation at Macquarie Street Dental, we’ll discuss all your treatment options and the cost. Some private health insurance policies may cover part of the cost of dental implant surgery. You can also talk to us about our flexible payment options.

Are dental implants covered by Medicare Australia?

Unfortunately, Medicare does not cover the cost of dental implants. This is because dental implants are considered an elective cosmetic procedure. If you choose sedation, this will attract a medicare rebate. Additionally, in some cases (for example, if you have significant tooth loss) you may qualify to access your super for dental implants.

What is the dental implant process?

When you’re ready to proceed, the steps are:

– Pre-op

During your personal consultation, world-renowned implant expert Dr Dunn will take a 3D scan of your jawbone, tooth impressions, and photos. These are used to inform the size, shape and position of your dental implant, tooth design, and overall treatment plan.

– Step 1 — dental implant placement

Many people choose to have their implants placed under sedation. You’ll be conscious but most likely relaxed and may even sleep throughout. If possible, you’ll have a temporary tooth placed on the same day.

– Step 2 — implant tooth or tooth bridge is placed

After 3-6 months, once your jawbone and gums have healed, it’s time for your permanent implant tooth or tooth bridge. Dr Dunn will ensure that the implant has successfully healed with the bone. He’ll take an impression of the implant, so that your new tooth can be beautifully hand-crafted by a master Australian ceramist. This will be ready in 2-3 weeks.
