Treating Broken or Fractured Teeth

Broken, chipped or damaged teeth can have a devastating effect on your smile and make you feel self-conscious. However, we can easily correct this situation using crowns or veneers.

Porcelain Veneers

Our porcelain veneers are hand-built, customized and thin, tooth-coloured shells of porcelain that are bonded to the front and biting surfaces of your teeth. Veneers require minimal tooth-preparation and can be very effective in creating a natural, straighter, and more beautiful smile.

It’s a relatively simple procedure that is an affordable alternative to a crown if your underlying tooth is still strong and healthy. Veneers appear and feel just like your real teeth, with a translucency that mimics the light absorption of natural teeth. They also last for at least ten to fifteen years, and will resist staining over time.

They are completed in two appointments – in a first appointment the teeth are prepared and impressions taken in a highly accurate material. This allows for a model to be built of the clinical situation. Our world class ceramist then rebuilds the tooth structure to a custom prescription of shape and shade out of porcelain. In a second appointment the veneers are carefully bonded to the front and biting surfaces of your teeth.

We can match your veneer to your existing tooth colour and shape, creating a perfectly natural effect. Because veneers imitate the light translucency of your real teeth they look just like real teeth… only better. They can be used to cover dark or yellow stained teeth, fill unsightly gaps, make shorter teeth longer, or straighten a crooked smile. So you can laugh and smile with confidence! When applied professionally and cared for regularly, veneers can last for well over 10 years and will not decay or stain.

Ceramic Crowns

If extensive restoration is required due to aggressive wear, decay or fracture, a porcelain crown may be the best solution. These restorations completely encase the tooth, and bind it together. An all-ceramic crown is a highly aesthetic restoration and ensures the long-term health of a badly broken down tooth, in any area of your mouth, especially where the restoration needed is extensive, or in a high pressure area. They can also re-shape and align misplaced, discoloured teeth.

Crowns have improved dramatically with new techniques and materials, so forget any memories you have of dark or opaque old-fashioned crowns, with unsightly dark margins at the gumline. Using the latest porcelain technology, we’ll create a beautiful and functional dental crown specifically for you. Dr Dunn’s artistic eye and expertise in assessing your facial shape ensure your crown will look and feel just like real teeth. We can also replace your existing old crowns for a more aesthetic appearance.
