Bruxing Wear, Crowns/Veneers – Case 3

Mr B had been sent to us from our specialist orthodontist, after completing orthodontic treatment. As is apparent, his upper front teeth had been fractured and worn due to heavy grinding or ‘bruxism’ and a number of his other teeth had also been affected. After completing 18 months of orthodontics, Mr B was ready to cap this off with a winning smile!

Due to the extent of the wear on his front teeth, crowns were the most ideal treatment solution due the strength and protection they provided; however porcelain veneers were prescribed for the remaining teeth, to complete the final transformation of the upper six front teeth.

After completing his ceramic restorations, we constructed a custom made, computer designed occlusal splint or ‘nightguard’ which Mr B wears every night to protect his new smile from nighttime bruxism. This not only protects the veneers but also his natural teeth from the considerable damage that can be caused by this grinding.

In comparison to his orthodontic treatment, the final restorative treatment with Dr Dunn was completed in next to no time – a surprise for Mr B and his friends and family!
